1. Introduction

As a research institute specializing in virology, viral pathology and virus technology since established in 1956, Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has achieved a series of original accomplishments and scientific contributions. WIV boasts an excellent academic environment and the first-class research facilities including the State Key Laboratory of Virology, the only domestic bio-containment level 4 laboratory (P4) in Wuhan built referring to the international construction standards, and the China Center for Viruses Culture Collection which houses the largest virus bank in Asia. In recent years, WIV has continuously increased international cooperation. It has established good and stable cooperative relationships with various world-renowned universities and scientific institutions. In addition, WIV has been evaluated as the “Center for International Research on Emerging Diseases, Viruses, and Pathology” by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). At present, WIV has integrated in the “CAS Pioneer Hundred Talents Program”. It has launched to build the Mega-Science Center for Bio-Safety Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which aims to develop basic and applied research  on pathogen biology, infectious disease prevention and control, and biological risk prevention, so as to strengthen the combinations among core biotechnology, engineering technology, and new materials technology, build an internationally outstanding team of innovation, research, and development, make breakthroughs in pathogenesis of pathogenic microorganism, protection technology of biosafety and bio-threat prediction, and offer a strong technological support for guaranteeing the national population health, maintaining the national security, and improving the sustainable development of economy and society.

3. Job responsibilities 

Technical expert in cryo-EM: To focus on the scientific innovation objectives of the research institute and following domestic and international academic frontier fields, and to establish scientific research direction and design research projects; to set up a 3D structure research platform for biological macromolecular complexes and virus particles; to introduce, develop, and innovate 3D reconstruction technology in cryo-EM, to resolve technical problems, and develop highly efficient or high-efficiency service abilities, and to provide good technical support for scientific research; to lead teams to preside major projects  at national or institute level; to advise and train young technical talents; to implement multifaceted overseas academic cooperation and communication.

4. Position conditions and relevant requirements

Technical expert for cryo-electron microscopy: Mastering the technologies in biological EM, cryo-E, and 3D reconstruction technology for cryo-electron microscopy; having solved analyzed 3D structure of complex with a molecular weight of at least 2MD or the above; be a young or middle-aged talent who has at least three years (including three years) of postdoctoral experience in cryo-EM or related disciplines. Any person who published top scientific research thesis, installed or maintained 200Kv cryo-electron microscopy is preferred. Candidates who have published papers in top-notch journals or have experience in installation and maintenance of a 200 KV cryo-EM facility are preferred.

5. Available support

Technical expert for cryo-electron microscopy: The research institute will provide a 100-200m² laboratory, an expense support of RMB 3,000,000-4,000,000, and sufficient stuff positions for building up the team.
